Return to TopSand Art Brownies

This is a recipe for brownies to give as a Christmas gift....or whenever. Mix ingredients in a wide mouth quart size jar, just like sand art that kids make today.

Add to wide mouth quart jar in this order:

  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 + 1/8 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Choc. Chips
  • 1/2 cup Vanilla Chips
  • 1/2 cup nuts

This should pack nicely into jar.

Include a decorative tag with instructions for making the brownies:

Combine contents of jar with:

  • 1tsp vanilla
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs

Pour into a greased 9x9 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 27-32 minutes

........Enjoy!!!!!!

Return to TopPowdered Milk Bath - Gift in a Jar

You will need:

  • Dry milk
  • Scented oil -perfume oil or essential oil

Mix 1 cup of dry milk with 5-8 drops of oil. Mix well. Add more oil for a stronger scent. Place in a container for gift giving.

Include a card with directions: To use, add to running bath water. You come out soft and smelling good!

Return to TopHot Chocolate Mix

This mix makes a great gift for neighbors, the elderly, school teachers, etc.

  • 3 cups powered Sugar
  • 8 ozs. non-fat dry milk
  • 1 16oz. Instant Chocolate Milk (I use Nestle's)
  • 1 6oz Creamora ( or any non-dairy creamer)

Mix ingredients well and store in air tight container until you're ready to make the individual gift packages.

With each gift add a tag that says: 3 tablespoons per cup of hot water.

This is wonderful hot chocolate, we get raves from it every year from grand-children. They seem to think this is the Best!

Return to TopHow to Make Your Own Gel Air Freshener

You can make your own great smelling gel air fresheners, using liquid potpourri, or from scratch. They make great gifts!

You will need:

  • 2 cups of distilled water
  • Essential oil/fragrance of your choice.
  • 4 packages of knox gelatin
  • Food coloring (optional)

Heat 1 cup of water almost to a boil. Add the gelatin and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat add another cup of distilled water, 10-20 drops of oil/fragrance, and food coloring if desired.

You can replace food coloring and oil/fragrance with premade liquid potpourri (available at most craft stores, candle shops, etc.). The procedure would be the same. Heat 1 cup of the liquid potpourri, almost to a boil. Stir in 4 packets of Knox gelatin, until dissolved. Then stir in 1 cup cool liquid potpourri.

Pour the mixture into clean baby food jars and set at room temperature overnight until "set". You can place the jars in the refrigerator if you need them to set more quickly, but be aware that the smell will permeate the fridge.

For gift giving, you can decorate the baby food jars by wrapping with material, or glueing on wallpaper, stickers, wrapping paper, etc.

To use, place the jar on the stovetop (not directly on the burner!) while cooking, heat in a potpourri burner, or simply set out on a table and enjoy the aroma.

Return to TopFrosting Windows (Duplicating Jack Frost)

This is perfect to create privacy, such as in a bathroom, or for shielding an ugly view. Make sure your windows are clean before you start.

Dissolve 4 heaping tablespoons of Epsom salts in one cup of beer. This will foam. Let set for at least 30 minutes. The salt crystals will partially dissolve.

Apply to window. This can be done with a 2 inch paint brush, but for a nicer effect, dip a facial tissue or terry cloth in the liquid and wipe over the window as if you were washing it. Then while the window is still wet go back and dab and pat at the glass with the wet tissue.

Mixture dries to form beautiful crystals. This looks even better the next day, and lasts a long time. It can be washed off with water and a cloth and is easily reapplied.
